Mannfried was my cello teacher for nearly 10 years, and it was great to work with him. I’d still be having weekly classes with him if I hadn’t moved from the area.  His knowledge of the instrument and repertoir is deep and wide ranging. I was able to achieve things I hadn’t expected because he encouraged and required me to push the boundaries of my comfort zone outwards. Having seen him deliver the Saint Seans concerto as soloist, I can also report that he’s a talented performer. — Paul Garner

Absolutely amazing . . . and I’ve modestly understated our experiece hiring Mannfried Funk.  I contacted Mr. Funk and secured his services for a private concert in Seattle.  He was so easy to work with, organized and professional, and I have not even gotten to the talent he brings to his art and craft; his talent is world class as his resume confirms.  My wife and I to this day hold in regard our evening enjoying his music as one of the best concerts we have even heard . . . and it was simply Mannfried Funk and his cello, and it was “beautiful” in a word.  — Rob

With many years of professional experience and even more years of patience, Mannfried Funk has to be the best cello instructor in the Seattle area.  I have always wanted to take cello lessons, but work and life never offered up a good time for me to pursue my dream.  As an adult in my mid-30s with no prior musical background, I wondered if Mannfried would have the patience necessary work with a student at my level.  Mannfried was very engaging, highly knowledgeable and the consummate professional.  I was put at ease.  At the end of the lesson, I signed up for a block of 13 more lessons.  Thus my love affair with the cello began.  Mannfried was very flexible with scheduling our lessons as well as pushed me along when I was content going at a snail’s pace in my development.  I appreciate his vast knowledge, extensive cello experience and years of practical instruction which helped me to overcome personal development obstacles.  Mannfried was able to “see around the corner” and anticipate my stumbling blocks as well as help me to reach my own understanding of the relationship between me and the cello.  I can truly say that working with Mannfried has been such a rewarding and gratifying experience.  Without reservation and with my highest regards, I wholeheartedly recommend Mannfried for personal cello instruction! —   Keith Mason

Mannfried is an excellent teacher. He takes the time to make sure you’re getting the concepts he is teaching, and he is persistent on keeping you on track. He’s also great as a concert soloist. Eastside Symphony has been privileged to have him join us as a guest musician for several concerts. His performances were always stellar. — Patti Leng, American Real Estate

I started taking cello lessons with Mannfried Funk, a former Seattle Symphony member. He’s got a great teaching space in his home on Phinney Ridge but also makes house calls. He’s a super likable guy and very patient. If you’re looking for a Cello teacher in Seattle (or the Eastside) I’d highly recommend him. — Ben W.
